So out to the beta readers it is. Now I\u2019m facing a whole new world of writer-hood: getting published.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, my intention was to self-publish, and I still may. However, my writing coach has convinced me that the potential audience for this this is much larger than I\u2019m likely to reach by self-publishing. That means that I may have to pitch this thing! &lt;ack&gt;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_601\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-601\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-601\" src=\"https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Book-Church-sm-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"All these books and not one of them like mine?\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Book-Church-sm-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Book-Church-sm-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Book-Church-sm.jpeg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-601\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All these books and not one of them like mine?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I\u2019m not yet to the point of putting together a book proposal, but I do have a research assignment: find books that fall in the department of \u201clike mine\u201d and figure out how mine is different. While working on this assignment I\u2019ve found TONS of books that focus on how to be a better writer \u2013 of anything \u2013 but nothing that actually talks about the types of writing out there that have nothing to do with books! I\u2019m still looking \u2026. I\u2019m also about to ask other people to look for me \u2013 I\u2019m too close.<\/p>\n<p>Articles, yes, found plenty of them \u2013 and I used a few when I started to flush out what I wanted to include in <em>How to be a Writer without Writing a Book<\/em>. Articles, however, lack depth. Many of them lack personality. While people might accuse me of lacking depth, I have personality in abundance.<\/p>\n<p>I know what makes my book different, I just don\u2019t know what it is different from!<\/p>\n<p>On a slightly different note, I got a suggestion from one of the many business coaches in my life. When I find these books that are like mine, find one I like by a bestselling author and ask them to write a forward for my book.<\/p>\n<p>&lt;ACK \u2013 choke, gurgle&gt;<\/p>\n<p>Talk about putting my butt on the line! I\u2019m still getting used to the fact that my fit of sarcasm has some serious potential. Although, on that front, I\u2019m doing well. That knot in my stomach is along the lines of Christmas morning when I know I\u2019ve gotten perfect gifts for all my loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the idea of doing an audio book. I think I\u2019ll just keep my head in the sand on that one for now.<\/p>\n<p>Back to the publishing thing. Publishers \u2013 and the horror stories about them \u2013 is one of the reasons I\u2019m not an author. Well, no; publishers have nothing to do with why I\u2019m not an author. But I certainly do not look forward to finding the right one and pitching.<\/p>\n<p>Ah well, all in due course.
