{"id":525,"date":"2017-01-12T12:19:29","date_gmt":"2017-01-12T20:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/?p=525"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:54:42","modified_gmt":"2018-04-17T00:54:42","slug":"get-inspired-damn-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/get-inspired-damn-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Inspired, Damn It!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That\u2019s helpful, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p>Writing for other people has a decent amount of inspiration built in \u2013 they provide the topic, I write about it. While some of those topics are harder (more boring) than others, at least I know what I\u2019m writing about. And, for me, the topic is the hardest part. The quality of the writing needs some inspiration of its own, but if I don\u2019t have a topic, there\u2019s no quality to judge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #055a3c;\"><strong>Note to clients, future clients, clients of other writers, and anyone thinking about hiring a writer:<\/strong><\/span> You Must Provide Topics. We are not mind readers and plucking subjects out of thin air is a great way to be unhappy with the results.<\/p>\n<p>Writing for myself, however, is a different story altogether. When I\u2019ve got a hot idea, the words tend to flow. The problem is that hot ideas are hard to come by and rarely arrive on any sort of schedule. Yep, that inspiration is a fickle \u2026 um \u2026 creature.<\/p>\n<p>Inspiration, though, is not hiding. It is out there, big, bold, bright, and shiny, just waiting for someone to see it. And that\u2019s the catch, am I seeing? The hardest way for me to see inspiration is to be in that desperate, \u201c<span style=\"color: #055a3c;\"><strong>I NEED A Blog Topic!<\/strong><\/span>\u201d mode of looking for it. The hot ideas come when I\u2019m open and letting my brain make its own connections.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I would say that looking for inspiration is the surest way to keep yourself from seeing it.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe that\u2019s why so many \u201cinspired\u201d artists drink and\/or take drugs \u2013 to open the brain and get the conscious out of the way. (I think I\u2019ll get off this line of thinking before I get myself in trouble.)<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to add something that people might find helpful, I went to my second favorite resource, Google.<\/p>\n<p>The search that got me something that piqued my interest was, \u201cfinding inspiration for business writing.\u201d And yes, I got 11 million results \u2013 some of which I may look at later.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_527\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-527\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-527\" src=\"https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Inspriation-300x196.jpeg\" alt=\"Great ideas have drafts too.\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Inspriation-300x196.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Inspriation-768x503.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/torawriting.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Inspriation-1024x670.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-527\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Great ideas have drafts too.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The one that got my attention was\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0100ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0100ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.copyblogger.com\/tricks-for-writing-inspiration\/\">10 Tricks For Getting Inspired to Write<\/a><\/span> (another one of those damn number and list titles). Some of the tips are ones that I may use in the future, but the really important point was tip number 10: <span style=\"color: #055a3c;\"><strong>Find your joy<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In this point, author Jon Morrow reminded me of something critical: <span style=\"color: #055a3c;\"><strong>I love to write.<\/strong><\/span> Writing is a key part of who I am. Turning writing into something I hate is not an option.<\/p>\n<p>Lately, I let myself get caught up in trying to come up with useful blog topics. Well, you know what? I don\u2019t always have something useful to say. However, I regularly have something random, silly, or pointless to say. And those things can lead to something useful, or not.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to pay attention to that big, bold, bright, and shiny inspiration \u2013 no matter the topic.<\/p>\n<p>So, be warned. To honor my business, and the \u201cneed\u201d for a business blog, I\u2019m not going to worry about usefulness. I\u2019m going to go back to my love of writing. Posts may be long, short, relevant, pointless, frequent, or sporadic.
