There are laws about what manufacturers say on their labels \u2013 they cannot lie. They can, however, format the truth in a way that leads you to think it says something else. Sort of \u201cmarketing truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prime example, my body wash. I\u2019m not complaining about the body wash. I\u2019m not even complaining about what the label says versus what they want me to think the label says. I\u2019m not complaining at all. I am observing great marketing in action.<\/p>\n

The Lie You Think is the Truth<\/h2>\n

Part of why lawyers hide things is the small print is that the human brain reads the big print first and may \u2013 or may not \u2013 get to the small print last.<\/p>\n

In the image above \u201c100% PURE\u201d is the big print. Next, \u201cplant extracts\u201d is in slightly smaller font and in lower-case letters. Finally, we have \u201ccontains\u201d \u2013 the first line. This line is in lower case letters, maybe an even smaller font, AND the letters have much more space between them. Graphically, this spacing keeps everything flush; mentally, this is another trick to reduce the impact of the word on a person\u2019s brain. What that all sums up to is that while the text says, \u201ccontains 100% pure plant extracts,\u201d what your brain takes in is, \u201c100% pure plant extracts \u2026 contains<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lie is: This product is 100% pure plant extracts.<\/strong><\/p>\n
